Henry Cavill has had nothing but bad luck in his career despite great fan popularity. What recently culminated in the Superman debacle already began with James Bond and Twilight.
One can only feel sorry for Henry Cavill. Although both roles are incredibly popular with fans, it’s now over for the actor in both The Witcher and as Superman at DC. But these are just the latest examples of a career in which he has often been the right man at the wrong time. Twilight and James Bond also show him to be Hollywood’s biggest unlucky man.
Before Superman snafu: Henry Cavill missed James Bond role and Twilight appearance
The actor’s losing streak begins in the run-up to the 2006 release of Bond film James Bond 007 – Casino Royale. According to one source, Henry Cavill was rejected as a 007 candidate because of his physique. According to a more recent revelation, it may have been more down to age. In the final round, the Bond makers apparently decided against the “younger option” of an early-twenties Cavill.
Shortly thereafter, he nearly spearheaded another mega-franchise. At least if Twilight author Stephenie Meyer had had her way. The writer described the actor as “her perfect Edward” in 2007, but her dream pick had “aged” and needed to be “recast” (via Stepheniemeyer.com ). The role in the film adaptation Twilight – Until Dawn and its sequels was taken by 21-year-old Robert Pattinson instead of 24-year-old Cavill.
With the casting as the DC king Superman from Man of Steel onwards, Cavill’s career finally seemed to be progressing properly. But although he was very popular with fans and moviegoers as the hero in the red cape, Warner’s superhero universe soon sank more and more into chaos. His big return at the end of Black Adam recently proved to be a death blow. Henry Cavill’s Superman days are finally over.
Additionally, his Bond fate grew from misfortune to almost gloating during his nearly 10-year DC career. Before 2006 he was too young for the role, in 2022 Henry Cavill is apparently too old for the 007 dream.
Yet Cavill simply does not deserve the career misfortune. After all, he is hugely popular with millions of fans and has proven his skills as an actor many times over. Rumours are circulating about a possible appearance in Avatar 4. One can only keep one’s fingers crossed for him.
