The 90s disaster movie Twister is finally getting part 2. With a definite start date. And hopefully a sequel to the most bizarre scene of the blockbuster.

The tornado chase Twister is considered one of the most popular disaster films of the 1990s. 28 years later, a sequel is finally set to hit the cinemas with Twisters. But the sequel must first reach the bar set by the legendary cow scene.

Disaster movie fans remember Twister mainly for the cow scene

For those who aren’t absolute Twister uber-fans, this scene in particular immediately springs to mind when watching the 1996 disaster film. When storm chasers Jo (Helen Hunt) and Bill (Bill Paxton) get dangerously close to a tornado, a cow carried away by the wind floats past their car several times. It’s the bizarre climax to a particularly gripping sequence.

The sequel has yet to follow up on such brilliant moments. But since, in addition to the predecessor itself, the scene has also reached cult status by now, a winking reference in the sequel is not at all unlikely. And by now fans also know when they can expect part 2.

When will Twister 2 be released?

Twister is scheduled to hit US cinemas on 19 July 2024. A German release date has not yet been set, but it will most likely be 18 July 2024. The film is directed by Minari – Wo wir Wurzeln schlagen filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung.
