Is “Star Wars: Solo 2” coming after all? Now the director speaks up

by Tommy

For some time now, there have been calls for a continuation of “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, so far with little success. Now Ron Howard has spoken out and even if there are no concrete plans so far, fans should not give up hope completely…

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” unfortunately fell far short of expectations. Fans and critics alike did not like the prequel about the young smuggler (played by Alden Ehrenreich) and the sci-fi film was not convincing at the box office either.

Nevertheless, the film also has advocates who keep calling for a sequel to “Solo: A Star Wars Story” under the hashtag MakeSolo2Happen. Director Ron Howard already gave fans little hope at the end of 2020 – and unfortunately, two years later, little has changed. As part of a review of Ron Howard’s filmography, the “Solo” director was also asked by NME about a possible sequel. Unfortunately, the director’s answer is quite clear:

“The only discussion about a sequel to ‘Solo’ as far as I know is currently coming from the fans. I don’t think it’s a priority of Lucasfilm, as I understand it. “

THERE IS ONE BRIGHT SPOT THOUGH

However, the filmmaker is still giving fans hope that the film could still be continued at some point:

“But there are some great characters introduced [in “Solo: A Star Wars Story”], and the people at Lucasfilm love the fans and really listen, so I would never say never – but right now I don’t know of any concrete plans to expand the story or deal with that particular group of characters. “

And that there is still a lot to tell and that writers Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan must have at least had an idea for a sequel, everyone who knows the ending of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” knows. Back in May 2019, Jonathan Kasdan hinted that there was a war story in the life of the thuggish smuggler Han Solo that still needed to be told. A tweet at the time suggested that it could be the clash between the crime syndicates Crimson Dawn (led by Darth Maul), the Pykes and the Hutts.

A CONTINUATION IN SERIES FORM?

In addition, a sequel wouldn’t necessarily have to take place on the big screen. “The Mandalorian” and most recently “Andor” have proven that Disney is quite capable of telling great “Star Wars” stories in series form.

The fact that the fans have a certain power and can certainly persuade a studio to realise projects if they are only demanded long enough and by enough people has already been seen with the Snyder cut of Justice League. Since 2017, fans have been campaigning under the hashtag ReleaseTheSnyderCut for the DC superhero film Justice League to be released in the version originally envisaged by Zack Snyder after all. And in 2021, the Snyder cut should actually be released…

Even though there are currently no plans for a sequel to the film, fans shouldn’t give up hope quite yet…
