Revealed: Marvel reshoots prevented a grim one at the last moment

The ending of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was reportedly changed shortly before the film’s release. A very different fate would have awaited the Marvel villain Kang.

Warning, spoilers follow: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania not only kicked off the 5th phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also sets the stage for future events in the Multiverse saga with its villain Kang (Jonathan Majors). However, the end of the MCU film was not received positively by all Marvel fans.

In the finale of Ant-Man 3, the actually superior supervillain Kang is defeated by Ant-Man and Wasp. Afterwards, they return home through a portal from the quantum plane that was easily reopened by Cassie. This happy ending would not have existed noahe. The ending was completely reworked before launch.

Changed at the last second: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had a very different ending for Kang

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is said to have been given a new ending at the last minute. This is reported by the site The Direct citing previous story leaks from last year that, in retrospect, correctly described the plot of the MCU blockbuster – with one important exception.

Reshoots actually took place just a few weeks before launch. In January 2023, lead actor Paul Rudd was spotted reshooting. Set pictures show him just before Scott’s daughter Cassie’s (Kathryn Newton) fake birthday party.

Looking at previously released leaks about the plot of Ant-Man 3, it is possible to see what has been changed. For example, the film was supposed to end on a much darker note. The Conqueror survives and is not devoured by his multiversal energy core. At the last second, he manages to escape through the closing portal. Scott and Hope are trapped in the quantum plane but are not rescued as in the movie version.

Also in this version, Cassie, Hank (Michael Douglas) and Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) make it back to San Francisco. Instead of a birthday party with disgust cake, the film should end with Hank’s promise that together they will find a way to find and free Hope and Scott. This is followed by a final scene in which Cassie discovers something strange on a computer. What it is, we don’t learn.
