At the end of April, the new action series Citadel from the Avengers: Endgame makers will launch on Amazon Prime. The first trailer unleashes cracking entertainment that is being touted as revolutionary.
After their involvement in the MCU, where they directed the likes of Avengers 3: Infinity War and Avengers 4: Endgame, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are back with a new potential action highlight on Amazon. After the Netflix blockbuster The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, they are involved as producers in the upcoming series Citadel.
The main roles in the agent thriller, with which Amazon is probably hoping for a new James Bond and Jack Ryan replacement, are played by Game of Thrones star Richard Madden and Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Now a first trailer has been released.

Amazon’s Citadel is touted as revolutionary action and has blown the budget
The series is about the titular spy agency that was destroyed by a powerful syndicate. This wiped out the memories of elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). Together, they must stop the powerful syndicate’s plan despite their difficult circumstances.
At a digital press conference attended by Moviepilot editor-in-chief Lisa Ludwig, the Russos talked about the compelling concept of the Amazon series. Joe Russo said, not exactly modestly:
“The exciting thing is the scope of the action sequences. You’ve never seen anything like it. […] It points to where storytelling can go. ”
The scale of the budget is also said to have escalated in Citadel. The Hollywood Reporter reported in 2022 that the Amazon series is said to have cost over $200 million due to expensive reshoots and creative shuffles behind the scenes. This makes the action production one of the most expensive series of all time.
The first two episodes Citadel will be released on Amazon Prime on 28 April 2023. The rest of the six episodes will then be released on a weekly basis every Friday.
