In the 2nd Avengers movie, the artificial intelligence Ultron made life difficult for the Avengers. According to a rumour, the Marvel villain is set to return soon.

Of the four Avengers adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron enjoys the worst reputation. On Moviepilot, too, the Joss Whedon-directed flick brings up the rear of the MCU team films with a rating of 7.1.

At the same time, Age of Ultron featured one of the most iconic villains from the Marvel comics. According to a new rumour, the renegade artificial intelligence known as Ultron will soon get another chance in the MCU.

As reported by The Direct among others, the Ultron rumour was recently shared by the moderators of the Marvel Studios Spoilers subreddit, citing “trusted sources”. According to the report, Ultron is set to return in the upcoming Armor Wars feature film, once again brought to life by The Blacklist star James Spader.

First announced as a new MCU series in December 2020, Armor Wars development has since taken a new direction. The project is now set to be realised as a feature film and will star Don Cheadle as War Machine. He is confronted with Stark technology falling into the wrong hands. Is it possibly the Ultron programme developed by Tony Stark?

The report should be treated with caution for the time being. At the moment it is only a rumour. However, plot information about upcoming MCU projects has been published several times in the past in the Marvel spoiler subreddit, which later turned out to be correct.

An appearance in the MCU film Armor Wars would not be Ultron’s first return in a Marvel project. In the animated series What If…?, Ultron sought to seize control of the multiverse. However, this version of the character was not voiced by James Spader. In addition, alternative versions of the Ultron drones were last seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – in the Earth 838.
