In a few days John Wick: Chapter 4 with Keanu Reeves opens. But what about John Wick 5? The director’s new statements dampen the anticipation.
John Wick is the light at the end of the tunnel, the gentle ray of sunshine after a storm, at least for some action fans. The series with Keanu Reeves reliably delivers some of the best fight and chase scenes in Hollywood. This doesn’t seem to change with John Wick: Chapter 4, which is already being hailed in initial reactions as “one of the best action films of all time”. But what if that light goes out or thick clouds gather? What, in other words, if John Wick 5 doesn’t get made for now?
John Wick 5 is on hold, at least according to director Chad Stahelski
Chad Stahelski has directed all of the previous John Wick films and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he was asked about the future of the series. His answer:
” If we have our way, Keanu and I are done for now. We’ll give John Wick a breather. “
Based on that, there’s at least one major break between John Wick 4 and 5, or even an ending for the hitman. Stahelski puts his statements into perspective, however:
“I’m sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves [John Wick 4] […], we’ll take a quiet minute. The Wick films are always the last to come out in Japan […]. Keanu and I then take a long trip to Tokyo, we sit down in the bar of the Imperial Hotel and ask ourselves, ‘What do you think?’ We drink some 20-year-old whiskies and write some ideas on napkins. If we like those, then maybe we’ll make a film. “
So now you know not only that there’s still hope for John Wick: Chapter 5, but also how dank the brainstorming for new installments in the Keanu Reeves series is going.
