When will Rian Johnson’s Poker Face come to Germany? It’s coming soon: the acclaimed crime series starring Natasha Lyonne has found a streaming service.
The Last of Us, You and The Mandalorian can also be seen in Germany directly on their US broadcast. WOW, thank you Netflix and Disney+. But even in this world with its countless streaming services, it still happens that we have to wait months for an acclaimed US series. One such case is Poker Face.
Poker Face by Rian Johnson is coming to WOW
in just one month.
The mystery-dramedy series was developed by Rian Johnson for streaming service Peacock and has been running there since late January. Following his two acclaimed whodunnit films Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Johnson is once again living out his passion for the crime genre here. From Monday 24 April 2023, WOW * or Sky will release a double episode of the series every week, according to a press release. The episodes will be available in German, English and in English with German or English subtitles.
What is Poker Face about? Not even the best Poker Face can fool Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne, of Orange Is the New Black fame). That’s because she has the special gift of immediately recognising when a person is lying. This ability helps her solve crimes. Charlie drives across the country in her Plymouth Barracuda, meeting all kinds of people and solving tricky crime cases. So Poker Face doesn’t tell a continuous storyline, but a new adventure in each episode.
99 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes: Poker Face is praised to the skies
In the USA, all 10 episodes (running time: approx. 60 minutes) have already run. And hardly any series of this year is more popular with the critics. On the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Poker Face has an almost flawless 99 percent positive rating. The audience average is 80 percent. This means that Poker Face also outperforms the acclaimed horror series The Last of Us.
In the reviews, the crime thriller is compared with genre greats such as the crime classic Columbo. Variety writes: “Certainly one of the strongest series to launch at Peacock to date. This drama feels like the best kind of old-fashioned, cosy television. The elegant choice of mystery stories gives a familiar star time to solve a new kind of case […]”
Lead actor Natasha Lyonne is especially praised, here by The Playlist : “She’s funny, engaging, charismatic and perfect for the role, finding a great mix of wit and eccentricity. “
