The longest Christopher Nolan film to date still went under three hours. His upcoming blockbuster Oppenheimer is rumoured to top that record.
While a film like Dunkirk still surprised with a compact running time of 106 minutes, Christopher Nolan seems to be saying goodbye to shorter blockbusters for good. His longest film to date, Interstellar (169 minutes), is to be surpassed by the director with his upcoming work. Oppenheimer is reportedly as long as Avengers: Endgame.

Nolan epic Oppenheimer is said to be his longest film to date
World of Reel reports that former Hollywood Reporter journalist Matt Belloni writes in his newsletter about the alleged running time of Nolan’s new film. Of course, before the film’s release in July, changes to the running time could be made in the editing process. At the moment, however, Oppenheimer is said to be a whopping three hours long. That would make it Christopher Nolan’s longest film to date.
Oppenheimer is based on the true story surrounding the creation of the first atomic bomb by physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer during World War II. It stars Cillian Murphy, while Nolan’s upcoming blockbuster is expected to be a mix of biopic, war film and thriller. The plot is said to be primarily about the moral dilemma surrounding the construction of this weapon of mass destruction.
In addition to Murphy, Oppenheimer also stars Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh and Matthias Schweighöfer. Nolan’s new film will be released in Germany on 20 July 2023.
