John Wick 4 ends with a loud bang unlike any other in the action series. But how does the story continue in part 5? We have the most important information about the future of the series for you.
Long have we waited for John Wick: Chapter 4. Since Thursday, the sequel with Keanu Reeves is finally playing in German cinemas. In 169 epic minutes, director Chad Stahelski unleashes an action inferno that makes the big screen shake before the film takes an unexpected turn in the final minutes.
After three bloody vendettas and countless emptied magazines, it seemed like John Wick was immortal. Even when the taciturn hitman has left the battlefield limping in the past, we could assume he’d be back on the mat giving it his all in the next installment.
Shock ending with Keanu Reeves: Will John Wick die in part 4?
John Wick: Chapter 4 ends with a fateful duel in which Reeves’ hitman takes a bullet and dies on the steps of Sacré-Cœur. Yes, John Wick dies. What makes the scene particularly bitter is that shortly before this he has managed to be absolved of all his duties to the High Chamber.

Figure deaths are very relative in today’s franchise cinema. So is John Wick really dead? We asked Chad Stahelski, who has been with the series since the first installment as director and action architect, that very question.
“Is John Wick dead? Is he alive? I would say he’s at peace. It’s a cathartic experience. You want the characters to be rewarded at the end of a journey like that. You want the story to have a touching conclusion. It feels very frustrating when you sit in a film for two and a half hours and the characters don’t get anywhere. “
Based on the ending of the film, it really does look like John Wick has died. However, if we take a step back, it’s hard to believe that he will never return. After all, we’re talking about one of the most profitable film series in Hollywood, and its expansion has only just begun.
John Wick 5 and more: the action series with Keanu Reeves is far from over
Originally, John Wick: Chapter 4 and John Wick: Chapter 5 were to be filmed back-to-back. The studio Lionsgate has said goodbye to this plan for the time being. Stahelski recently indicated that he wanted to give John Wick a breather after the exhausting fourth part. This does not mean that Part 5 is dead.
But it will probably be some time before we find out exactly how the story continues. The post-credit scene of John Wick: Chapter 4 hints at another vendetta. This time Akira (Rina Sawayama) and Caine (Donnie Yen), who previously fought with and against John Wick respectively, get in each other’s way.
Even if John Wick’s death is final at the end of Part 4, we’ll see Keanu Reeves in Ballerina at least one more time in the iconic role.
In addition, two other spin-offs have been discussed. Halle Berry hinted in February 2022 that her Sophia from Chapter 3 could get a spin-off, picking up a discarded idea from her James Bond character Jinx. In addition, screenwriter Derek Kolstad expressed interest in a potential crossover with Nobody in March 2021.
