The mystery drama Pig features Nicolas Cage as you haven’t seen him in years. The terrific film about a missing pig is on TV today
Nicolas Cage is a one-of-a-kind actor. In 1995 he won an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas – Love to Death. But for the past two decades or so, it feels to many fans as if he determines his roles by rarity value. And often pretends to be explosive and eccentric in front of the camera. His tour de force in Pig is quite different. The incredible, twisted, gripping drama is on TV today.
On TV: Nicolas Cage convinces all the way as Pig
Michael Sarnoski’s film revolves around ex-star chef Rob (Cage) who lives deep in the woods with his beloved truffle pig. One day the animal is stolen. Desperate, its owner sets out to find it in the gastronomic underworld of the US city of Portland, where he was once celebrated as a visionary in his field.
Pig tells his crazy idea with incredible finesse and gives Cage plenty of room to unleash his endless talent. Grandiose ideas like a fight club among restaurateurs keep us entertained, while the lead actor delivers a performance that should keep all critics of his curious persona off his back for the next decade. Next to Leaving Las Vegas or Adaptation, Pig is his best work. A monologue by Rob about halfway through the film will leave even big fans of the star speechless.
When is Pig on TV?
Pig will be shown on RTL II at 1.05 am on the night of Friday, 24 March 2023 and Saturday, 25 March. If you don’t have time then, you can catch up with the film at 4.20. Nicolas Cage himself considers the mystery drama to be one of his best films.
