Finding the right balance between wit and suspense in an action-thriller comedy is not always easy. The first clues as to whether this task has been mastered in “High Heat” are provided by the trailer for the home cinema release:
“High Heat” features the promising pairing of 1980s TV hero Don Johnson and Marvel star Olga Kurylenko, who made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 when she went up against the titular heroine in “Black Widow” as Antonia Dreykov aka Taskmaster. She will reprise the role in the blockbuster “Thunderbolts” planned for 2024.
In “High Heat”, however, the two stars first play a married couple who urgently need to stick together, although they apparently have some serious secrets from each other. Now there is the German trailer for the action-comedy.
In the USA, the mix of action thriller and crime comedy was released in selected cinemas in December 2022 and also streamed at the same time. In this country, “High Heat” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on 28 April 2023. Both formats with FSK-16 clearance can already be pre-ordered from online sellers such as Amazon.
“HIGH HEAT”: THIS IS THE STORY
Ana (Olga Kurylenko) is overjoyed: after long, hard work, she can finally open her own restaurant. While she is full of passion in the kitchen, perfecting every single dish, her husband Ray (Don Johnson) lets all his charm play with the guests. So the evening seems to be a complete success.
But then Mick (Ivan Martin) suddenly appears, the coarse son of the local gangster boss Dom (Dallas Page). Very rudely, he reminds Ray of a massive debt he owes his father, which is finally due for payment. The desperate Ray sees no other way out than to have Mick and his henchmen burn down the restaurant and then give them the insurance money. Ana, however, is kept in the dark about all this by her husband.
When the serious business is to be done that very night, she unexpectedly finds herself still in the house and busy with final preparations for the next day. Ana is not ready to give up on her life’s dream yet again, and takes out the dumbfounded criminals one after the other extremely efficiently. Ray is shocked – he had no idea that his wife was once an agent of the Russian secret service…
