Tonight, a sci-fi blockbuster starring Vin Diesel is on TV, the infamous shoot of which was the subject of a documentary afterwards. The director couldn’t stand his star after the production.
Movie history is full of disastrous shoots, after which many people involved no longer wanted to talk to each other. There are even documentaries about the worst examples. Like about the sci-fi flop Babylon A.D. with Vin Diesel, which is on TV today.
On TV: Vin Diesel made sci-fi director go berserk during filming
Director Mathieu Kassovitz had been working on bringing the sci-fi story about a taciturn mercenary and his protégé (Mélanie Thierry) to the screen for several years before filming began. He finally got the money together, 20th Century Fox wanted to produce the film, and signed Diesel as the star for the lead role.
The shoot, however, turned out to be a disaster. As indicated in the documentary Fucking Kassovitz, the director argued with the studio over budget, time and content. A report from Page 6 suggests that Diesel torpedoed the shoot with excessive delays, making Kassovitz extremely angry. In an interview with SoFilm years later, the latter still referred to him as a “blowhard” who was “incapable of anything. “
