In Timeline, Paul Walker and Gerard Butler end up in the Middle Ages. The sci-fi flop from Superman director Richard Donner airs Wednesday nights on Nitro.
After films like Superman, Superman II – Alone Against All and Lethal Weapon – Two Steely Professionals, Richard Donner also directed the science fiction adaptation Timeline in the early 00s. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton, is about a group of young archaeology students who end up in the Middle Ages after traveling back in time.
Timeline flopped hard at the box office back in the day with stars like Paul Walker and Gerard Butler. If you haven’t seen the sci-fi film yet, you can take a look on Wednesday night at 10:05pm on Nitro.
Sci-fi movie Timeline was a commercial failure
In the film’s storyline, Chris (Paul Walker) and archaeology students Kate (Frances O’Connor) and André (Gerard Butler) set out to find Chris’ father, who has been sent back in time to 1357. The group quickly find themselves in the Middle Ages, where they get caught up in the war between the French and the English.
Just because of some elaborate battle scenes, Timeline gobbled up a budget of $80 million at the time. The sci-fi film, which was rather poorly received at initial test screenings and was recut before its theatrical release, flopped at the box office.
Worldwide, Donner’s film grossed only $43 million, according to Box Office Mojo making Timeline a mega-flop.
