With a three-month delay, one of the best series of 2023 has finally started in Germany. We’re talking about Poker Face, the latest project from Star Wars 8 director Rian Johnson.

We really don’t have a shortage of good series right now. While Succession delivers one strong episode after another from week to week, Netflix recently wowed us with the biting comedy-thriller Beef. Now, one of the first big series highlights of the year is finally available in Germany: Poker Face.

Poker Face launched in January on Peacock in the U.S. and was showered with positive reviews. Now Sky is releasing the crime thriller success on its streaming service WOW. The first two episodes were released yesterday. Every Monday, two more chapters appear, of the total of ten episodes strong 1st season.

At the center of the story of Poker Face is amateur detective Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), who appears to be quite scheduled, but has a very valuable gift: she can immediately tell when a person is lying. This is very helpful when she’s working on a new case. Still, things go wrong during her investigation.

Poker Face is the first series created by director and screenwriter Rian Johnson. He is best known as the creative mind behind Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi. He’s also dabbled in crime fiction several times over the course of his career, including Brick as well as Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Now, for the first time, he’s narrating weekly/episodic cases. He was inspired by a legend of the genre: Columbo.
