Preparations for Gladiator 2 are progressing in leaps and bounds. Especially when it comes to the cast, things are happening. Even a star from the original is now officially joining the sequel
For a long time, Gladiator 2 felt like a bad Hollywood joke. Why on earth would Ridley Scott return to his 2000 Oscar winner after more than two decades when the story has long since concluded? Yet that’s exactly what’s happening. The Gladiator sequel is in the midst of pre-production.
A bad joke has turned into one of the hottest film projects. This is reflected especially in the casting: almost every Hollywood star who reasonably fit the profile is said to have auditioned for the lead role. In the end, it went to Paul Mescal, who most recently shone in the indie drama Aftersun.
Gladiator 2 brings back Connie Nielsen from the original and nabs Pedro Pascal
Over the weekend, more casting news has arrived for Gladiator 2. On one hand, the first star from the original has been confirmed to make an appearance in the second installment: Connie Nielsen returns as Lucilla, Deadline reports. On the other hand, Pedro Pascal joins the growing cast.
You can watch the trailer for Gladiator here:
Pascal is currently one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. Just this year, he led the outstanding The Last of Us film adaptation. Moreover, he is the biggest name in the cast of The Mandalorian, even if we hardly get to see him. As Oberyn Martell, he could perfectly prepare for Gladiator 2 in Game of Thrones.
Along with Mescal and Pascal, three other actors are hitting the Gladiator universe for the first time: Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan, who also recently introduced himself to DC as the Joker.
