Hagazussa is a German horror secret tip that all genre fans should definitely have seen. Netflix is dropping it from its schedule in a few days.
Jump scares are cheap. At least, that’s the attitude of many shock-proof horror fans who are always on the lookout for new angles. And with Hagazussa – The Witch’s Curse, they’ll find it. The disturbing horror highlight with the alpine panorama of horror is only available for a short time on Netflix.
Hagazussa on Netflix: witch horror has rarely been so atmospheric
Hagazussa is set in the 15th century Austrian Alps. After the death of her mother, goat-herder Albrun (Aleksandra Cwen) faces the suspicious inhabitants of her village alone. When she becomes a single mother, the situation worsens. Accused of being a witch, the young woman isolates herself more and more and eventually begins to believe the accusations herself.
Austrian director Lukas Feigelfeld’s film dispenses entirely with quick shocks and, thanks to disturbingly beautiful images, rolls out an ominous atmosphere that transforms the film’s Alpine panorama into a swamp of cruelty and fear. If you liked Robert Eggers’ The Witch, you should definitely give Hagazussa a chance.
When will Hagazussa disappear from Netflix?
Horror fans need to hurry, though: Hagazussa is only available on Netflix until May 14, 2023. In addition to Cwen, Haymon Maria Buttinger (The Captain), among others, can be seen in front of the camera.
