Netflix has once again canceled a fantasy series after just one season. The decision is causing anger and disappointment among fans.
With Lockwood & Co it goes no further. The Young Adult series about a group of young Detektiv:innen, which hunts ghosts in an alternative London, was canceled by Netflix after one season. Fantasy fans are anything but thrilled.
“Netflix didn’t lift a finger”: fantasy fans criticize Lockwood & co-cancellation
As Variety reports, Netflix has pulled the series, based on a draft by Jonathan Stroud, from its schedule for financial reasons. Upon Stroud’s confirmation (via Sportskeeda ), many fans poured out their hearts on Twitter.
“My daughter is grieving like she lost a friend,” one mother, for example, lamented the cancellation. “Netflix made huge mistake,” another fan notes. A third viewer blames the streamer’s strategy itself: “Netflix didn’t lift a finger to promote the series. So it couldn’t get the numbers it needed. “
Jonathan I’m so sorry. It was a brilliantly produced show. My kids and I are utterly devastated by this. Daughter feeling grief like she’s lost a friend. @NetflixUK has a lot to answer for

The same thing that happened with 1899, happens now with Lockwood. Netflix didn’t lift a finger to promote it, so it’s difficult for the series to reach the “necessary numbers” for a renewal

This is far from the first time the streamer has refused to renew a series after its first season this year. Previous Netflix cancelations in 2023 include fan favorites like 1899 or Man vs. Bee.
