Fear The Walking Dead set new standards of cruelty in its latest episode on Amazon Prime, and it was hard to take for some of the stars involved during filming.
Fear the Walking Dead just kicked off its 8th season on Amazon Prime * and it picks up the pace not only with a big time jump, but also with borderline torture scenes.
Gruesome Child Experiments: This Fear the Walking Dead scene was almost too much for the stars
After Dwight (Austin Amelio) from The Walking Dead moved over to the spin-off series Fear the Walking, he was finally reunited with Sherry (Christine Evangelista). The 7-year time jump estranged the two once again, making them cogs in the wheel of the child-collecting organization PADRE, in order to place their son Finch (Gavin Warren) under its protection. The 2nd episode of season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead, Blue Jay, reunited the pair with June (Jenna Elfman). However, from her they also learned that the doctor had been conducting (so far unsuccessful) radiation experiments for PADRE that were supposed to slow or even stop zombie transformation.
Their escape together was thwarted at the end of the episode by villain Shrike (Maya Eshet), who not only cut off June’s index finger, but also used the zombie head of a deceased ally as a torture tool on a swinging arm to bite Dwight and Sherry’s son Finch. This was her way of “motivating” the three rebels to work together again, to devote themselves entirely to cure research.
Instead of a usual last-second rescue or the frequent offscreen violence against children, Fear the Walking Dead let the brutal scene unfold in all smacking slowness, without the pleading, bound parents to intervene. Whether or how long the unconscious 7-year-old Finch will survive the bite is questionable after that.
