At Cannes, Quentin Tarantino revealed new info about his upcoming film The Movie Critic. Now we know who the main character is and what kind of star the director wants for it.
Until now, information surrounding Quentin Tarantino’s final film project has been sparse. All that was certain was that the action would take place in Los Angeles in 1977. Now we finally know more details.
At a recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, Tarantino showed the 70s film The Man with the Steel Claw as a surprise film and answered questions from the audience. Here he revealed who the main character of The Movie Critic is and what kind of star he imagines for his cinema farewell.
Tarantino’s final film revolves around a porn magazine critic
Deadline elicited some new info from the cult director about the plot of The Movie Critic. As Tarantino explained, the main character of the film is a critic who writes for a porn magazine. In the film, the magazine is called The Popstar Pages.
Tarantino describes the main character as a vulgar, cynical character who wrote more like a 55-year-old in his early to mid-30s. Audiences are asked to imagine a mix of early US radio host Howard Stern and Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver, if the latter had been a film critic.
The main character The Movie Critic has a true role model
The main character from The Movie Critic is based on a real-life role model. There is already speculation on the net that this is the film critic William Marigold:

For the lead role, Tarantino imagines an actor around 35. He already has a name in mind. It should be an American star who would be a new kind of leading man for the director. (At Amazon: Quentin Tarantino’s favourite film in limited collector’s edition *)
