Two years ago, director Edgar Wright wowed audiences with an excellent horror thriller in the cinema. Now you can stream Last Night in Soho on Amazon Prime with a subscription.

Few filmmakers love genre cinema as much as Edgar Wright. Already hidden in the cult British series Spaced and the films of the Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End) are countless references to film history. In 2021, Wright has ventured into a particularly dark metier.

Last Night in Soho is an extremely suspenseful and stylish mix of psycho, thriller and horror elements that takes British cinema of the 1960s as its model. What is not missing are serial killers. Wright was inspired by one of the best serial killer films ever: Eyes of Fear aka Peeping Tom.

Horror thriller on Amazon Prime: Last Night in Soho unleashes a nightmare in 1960s London

At the centre of the story of Last Night in Soho is young Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie), who grew up in the country but is now finally moving to the big city. In London, she wants to give free rein to her passion for fashion design. Soon, however, she finds herself in a dark labyrinth full of abysses.

Here you can watch the trailer for Last Night in Soho:

Before Eloise knows it, she is roaming 1960s London in the body of young Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy) and meets the seductive as well as manipulative club manager Jack (Matt Smith). Eloise is fascinated by the world sparkling in bright lights. Soon, however, she realises that she has lost her way in a nightmare.

Wright stages this nightmare in intoxicating images in which the boundaries to reality become blurred. What is really happening? And what is Eloise imagining? Last Night in Soho has many layers that make us question what is shown again and again before the film unloads in a fiery finale.
