Today on TV: An embarrassing Bruce Willis clone by Dwayne Johnson, who only…

Bruce Willis’ Die Hard served as a model for countless films. Even Dwayne Johnson tried his hand at the great role model. Today, the failed result is on TV.

Die Hard stands and falls with Bruce Willis. His mercurial, hard-boiled and at the same time vulnerable-normal hero character simply holds the film together. But some producers just see lots of action in the high-rise. And so we get clones like Skyscraper with Dwayne Johnson, which is on TV today.

Bruce Willis clone with Dwayne Johnson starts well and quickly loses steam

The parallels to Willis’ McClane story are unmistakable in Skyscraper. Here, Johnson plays Sawyer, a security technician whose family is stuck in a high-rise with plenty of mean terrorists. The ex-elite fighter promptly steps in.

The Skyscraper

The film makes no secret of its model, which is already evident in the witty poster. The beginning of the film is also entertaining. Johnson fits perfectly into the dad/haired dualism of his role. even supporting characters get nice, slightly more complex moments and the action is efficiently staged.

But the good first impression quickly evaporates. Once the premise of the film is clear, everything runs according to the pattern. Interesting character moments are passé, even charmer Johnson can’t save the 08/15 plot. Bruce Willis would probably have just shrugged his shoulders. Skyscraper is not hair-raisingly bad, but in the end just a bit indifferent.
