With an average rating of 7.3 from the Moviepilot community, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is one of the best sci-fi series of the past year. The adventures of the endlessly charismatic Enterprise captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew were a huge surprise: the Star Trek series hasn’t been this compelling in a long time. And now season 2 is already just around the corner.
We’ll find out in a few days whether the sci-fi sequel can match the quality of the first season. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 starts this Thursday, 15 June. Find out when and where you can stream the new episodes here.
What to expect in season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
As with the first season, Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will once again rely on an episodic format. This means that each episode tells a stand-alone story with different genre inserts.
The biggest format experiment in the new season 2 will be a crossover with the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks. The Jonathan Frakes-directed episode (expected to be episode 7) will feature Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome portraying live-action versions of their animated characters Brad Boimler and Beckett Mariner.
In addition, fans can look forward to an appearance of classic Klingons, a time travel episode with James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley), a courtroom drama à la Who owns Data?, Vulcan comedy, horror as well as the first musical episode in the Star Trek universe in season 2.
Before the crew of the Enterprise under Captain Pike’s command can devote themselves to exploring new worlds and civilisations again, however, the status quo that was shaken up at the end of the first season must first be restored. Thus, Lieutenant La’an (Christina Chong) left the Enterprise for a personal mission and Number One Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) was arrested by Starfleet because of her Illyrian origin.
