A horror highlight from 2019 is now available on Amazon Prime. There is a special version of the film that goes 23 minutes (!) longer than the theatrical version.
Midsommar is one of the best horror films of recent years, which Amazon Prime Video has now added to its range (read more about its qualities here).
However, there is an alternative version of the film that is supposed to be even closer to the vision of director Ari Aster (Beau is Afraid). It is almost half an hour longer.
Horror on Amazon Prime: Here’s what sets the Midsommar versions apart
As Collider among others, cites, numerous differences exist between the two versions of the film. Some changes merely light scenes from different camera angles or make individual shots run a little longer. But there are also more profound changes.
Midsommar revolves around Dani (Florence Pugh), who visits a strange, isolated community in rural Sweden with her shady friend Christian (Jack Reynor) and other acquaintances. The longer version reinforces the impression of the guile with which Christian deceives Dani over the course of the film. Incidentally, there are apparently entirely new ritual scenes. The references between the Swedish community and racist ideas are also emphasised more clearly.
The Director’s Cut of Midsommar is available for purchase on Amazon *. It has a running time of 171 minutes. On Prime Video * only the regular theatrical version with a length of 147 minutes is available so far.
