ProSieben is airing Bloodshot with Vin Diesel on Sunday. Due to the Corona pandemic, the sci-fi actioner went down in the cinemas, but a sequel has been announced anyway.
Besides his successful Fast & Furious series, Vin Diesel has ventured into new roles and especially potential franchise starters every now and then. This includes the 2020 comic book adaptation Bloodshot.
At the time, however, the mix of sci-fi and action, which airs on Sundays at 23:05 on ProSieben, started at the worst possible time and flopped. It is to continue with Bloodshot and Diesel anyway.
Sci-fi blockbuster: Due to the Corona pandemonium, Bloodshot with Vin Diesel flopped
In the plot of the film, soldier Ray Garrison becomes the super soldier Bloodshot after an experiment. Equipped with superhuman powers such as self-healing, extremely fast reflexes and incredible strength, he embarks on a drastic journey without a memory.
Because Bloodshot hit cinemas in early March 2020, its release clashed with the start of the Corona pandemic. With all cinemas closing that month, the sci-fi actioner unsurprisingly turned into a financial flop. With a budget of $45 million, Bloodshot recouped just $39 million worldwide. Nevertheless, a potential franchise was not abandoned.
What’s next for Vin Diesel in Bloodshot 2?
In November 2020, there was the rather surprising announcement that a Bloodshot sequel with Vin Diesel was coming. According to Cinema Blend one of the producers was so pleased with the home movie success that the sci-fi action is set to continue.
Shortly after the lockdowns began due to the Corona Pandemic, Bloodshot was released fairly quickly as a premium VOD release. It seems the offer was taken up satisfactorily. Since then, there has been no new info on the Bloodshot 2 status.
