With the sci-fi series The Tribute to Panem, Jennifer Lawrence became a global star. Afterwards, however, the actress made a career decision that she regrets to this day.
Jennifer Lawrence proves in the cheeky RomCom No Hard Feelings that she is still a big star for whom many people go to the cinema. The US actress became famous as Katniss Everdeen in the science fiction series The Tribute to Panem, which comprises a total of four films.
After The Hunger Games ended, Lawrence was inundated with role offers. Every studio in Hollywood wanted to cast her in their next blockbuster. She decided on the science fiction film Passengers, which was released in 2016 … and flopped. Lawrence was even warned about the role.

None other than singer Adele has given Lawrence the sound advice that she’d be better off staying away from a sci-fi movie like Passengers. Lawrence revealed this in a New York Times portrait in 2022 .
“Adele had told me not to do [Passengers]! She was like, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.’ I should have listened to her. “

Passengers is said to have gobbled up a budget of up to 150 million US dollars (excluding marketing costs). The worldwide box-office takings, however, amount to only 300 million US dollars. In the USA, the most important market for the Sony studio, the film only managed to bring in 100 million US dollars, making it a flop.
Passengers was not only a financial disappointment. The sci-fi blockbuster also failed with the critics. Metacritic only comes up with an average score of 41 out of 100 points with 48 reviews entered. On Rotten Tomatoes, only 30 per cent of reviews are positive, which means that the film is considered “rotten”.
The film’s direction and casting have been particularly criticised. Passengers comes across as a glossy blockbuster, although it actually tells a dark story. Lawrence and co-star Chris Pratt have no chemistry whatsoever, which is exceedingly awkward in a film that revolves solely around two characters on a lonely spaceship. This Space Odyssey backfired in many ways.
