Quentin Tarantino apparently adores a sci-fi blockbuster that many consider one of the worst films of all time. He warned the director against negative reviews.
Quentin Tarantino is a feisty man. When in doubt, he likes to go against the majority opinion. This was the case with the hair-raising sci-fi disaster Battlefield Earth (2000) with John Travolta, which many consider to be the worst film of all time. Tarantino, on the other hand, apparently couldn’t get enough of the film.
Tarantino thrilled by legendary sci-fi flop: “I want to write something like that “
After the film’s premiere, Tarantino reportedly hugged Battlefield Earth director Roger Christian and then warned him strongly about bad reviews. In a 2008 interview with Den of Geek the Battlefield Earth director stated:
“[Tarantino said:] ‘I want to write something like that. It’s grandiose. They’ll kill you all, but I just love this movie. Wait 10, 12 years, then everything will change. But now? Forget it. You’ll go through hell.’ “
Battlefield Earth has a hair-raising rating of 3% on Rotten Tomatoes and has been completely trashed by just about every major critic:in. “A million monkeys with a million pens could hardly create something as incompetent as Battlefield Earth in a million years,” wrote the Washington Post .
Quentin Tarantino, on the other hand, hates three of the best films of all time. So it wouldn’t be the first time that the director has declared war on the opinion of the majority. Whether Battlefield Earth really deserved his adoration is a question for each individual to answer.
