Two years ago, Amazon began filming a fantasy universe apart from its Lord of the Rings series. A first trailer now recalls the world of the “Dragon Reborn” to us with plenty of magic and battle.
Already in May, Amazon’s The Wheel of Time announced the start date of season 2, now the fantasy series based on the books by Robert Jordan also delivers a first proper trailer. In which you can see a newly cast main character in action for the first time, among other things.
Amazon’s The Wheel of Time introduces its Lord of the Rings replacement in the season 2 trailer
The 1st season of The Wheel of Time arrived on Amazon Prime * in late 2021 like a test run for the series epic The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, launching a year later. In 2023, Amazon is also sticking to the established fantasy autumn and is sending the 2nd season of The Wheel of Time into the race from 1 September.
We remember: In a universe where only women, the Aes Sedai, are allowed to practice magic, a Chosen One was prophesied who would save or destroy the world. Hunted by the minions of evil, Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) set out on a journey with five possible candidates. But only one among them turned out to be a “dragon reborn” at the end of season 1.

Those familiar with Robert Jordan’s series of novels * on The Wheel of Time will know that the 14-volume fantasy cycle has many Lord of the Rings parallels, especially at the beginning (companions, magical expedition leaders, Moria replacements, Ringwraiths of their own, etc.) and will find them in Season 2 as well.
One noticeable change in Season 2 concerns a newly cast main character: gambler and dagger thief Mat Cauthon is now no longer embodied by Barney Harris, but by Dónal Finn.
