If you think you’ve already witnessed Jenna Ortega’s craziest acts in Netflix’s Wednesday, you’re wrong. Because in her next film, a unicorn meets his demise through her fault.
While the current actors’ and screenwriters’ strike is crippling most of Hollywood, a few projects have been given permission to shoot by the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA in spite of it all because, as independent productions, they are not bound by the AMPTP (Studio Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), according to Variety. One of these projects is a film about dead unicorns, Jenna Ortega and a Marvel star: Death of a Unicorn.
Help, I ran over a unicorn: Jenna Ortega shoots Death of a Unicorn
Death of a Unicorn is being produced by acclaimed indie studio A24 (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and is set to begin shooting soon in Hungary, according to Comicbook. Not much is known about the film yet, but what has already been leaked sounds like it would also fit beautifully into an episode of Jenna Ortega’s Netflix hit Wednesday:
A father (Paul Rudd) and his daughter (Jenna Ortega) are in their car on the way home when the unbelievable happens: they run over an animal. But not just any animal, a unicorn! And we can imagine that this accidental mythical creature murder in Death of a Unicorn will not remain without consequences.
Why Jenna Ortega was cast alongside Marvel’s comedically-trained Ant-Man star for the daughter role is not hard to understand: Death of a Unicorn fits perfectly with her parade role of Wednesday Addams (and her casting in Beetlejuice 2): a little bizarre, a little macabre and still funny.
We can’t yet tell whether the film’s premise will drift more in the horror or comedy direction, but either way Jenna Ortega is prepared (thanks to appearances in Scream and Yes Day). Death of a Unicorn will probably not be released until late 2024 at the earliest.
