Will we see Keira Knightley again in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie as Elizabeth Swann? The actress has already given the best answer to that question herself.
For six years, the Pirates of the Caribbean series has lain fallow – actually incredible when we consider what a cliffhanger the most recent instalment ended on. In the final breaths of Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Salazar’s Revenge, not only is the return of the original trio teased. The best villain in the series also makes his return.
In a post-credit scene, we see the shadow of Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) looming over the bed of Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Will (Orlando Bloom). How the story continues after that, we don’t know. To date, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has made no progress. The film is stewing in production hell.
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 with Keira Knightley? We’ll probably never see Elizabeth Swann again
If Pirates of the Caribbean 6 does come to fruition one day, however, we shouldn’t expect to see Keira Knightley return as Elizabeth Swann. Back in March 2023, the actress revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight , that the story has long since found its perfect conclusion for her.
“I mean, [Elizabeth] has sailed away so beautifully. She sailed away in style,” Knightley says in regards to her possible, but very unlikely, franchise return. When we look at the character development of her character in the original trilogy, it makes a lot of sense. Elizabeth’s adventure has come to an end.
We first met the character as the daughter of a governor who was to be married off to a man she didn’t love and was kidnapped by a pirate. Over the course of the first three films, Elizabeth has freed herself from all these shackles and chosen her true love. In the end, she even became a pirate queen.
If anyone has played through the Pirates of the Caribbean universe, it’s Elizabeth.
