For almost ten years we’ve been waiting for the sequel to the insanely entertaining Edge of Tomorrow. You can catch the movie at Netflix. Actress Emily Blunt has given a new update on the sequel.

Edge of Tomorrow made two of Moviepilot’s editors’ top lists: the 100 best movies of the last 10 years and The 50 best science fiction movies since 2000, making it one of the best sci-fi movies of the decade.

You can currently stream Edge of Tomorrow on Netflix. In this article, we’ll also show you what actress Emily Blunt said most recently about the sequel. It gives hope, and at the same time her statement proves how complicated the circumstances around the film are.

113 minutes of pure sci-fi action on Netflix: what is Edge of Tomorrow about?

In Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise’s character relives the same day over and over again, and on an alien battlefield to boot. He teams up with a super-soldier (Emily Blunt) and the two come up with a plan to avert the alien invasion. This concept works out great. Moreover, the two stars harmonized perfectly with each other. Naturally, genre fans have been clamoring for the sequel since the film’s release in 2014.

What about the sequel for Edge of Tomorrow?

Emily Blunt is currently starring in the Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer. Tom Cruise is playing agent Ethan Hunt for the seventh time in Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One. So the two stars of the extremely popular sci-fi blockbuster are doing well. No wonder that the sequel, which was actually firmly planned, has been on hold for years.

Emily Blunt, however, has been talking about the sequel a lot lately. In June, she said:

“It’s like we have to create something that’s as ambitious as the first part. How much more can you do with the concept of repeating a day? What’s the new construct? “

In a new interview with Josh Horowitz Emily Blunt sounds more optimistic again. She’s fully behind the sequel, “I’m so ready. I’m not the obstacle. I promise that.”

Okay, but then what – or rather, who – is the obstacle? The script? Blunt says, “There was a script that [director] Doug Liman pushed on me … I would love to make it a reality. “
