Cult director Guy Ritchie has received rave reviews for his war movie The Covenant. Now it’s also the most popular movie on Amazon Prime.
Cult director Guy Ritchie’s career has been anything but boring. After his breakthrough with gangster comedies like Snatch, he shot Aladdin for Disney, then finally returned to his roots with Jason Statham and Operation Fortune. His latest film, the war drama Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant with Marvel star Jake Gyllenhaal, has been critically acclaimed. And is now the most popular Amazon Prime movie of the week in Germany.
Guy Ritchie’s war movie even beats Sylvester Stallone and 007
on Amazon Prime.
As a press release indicates, The Covenant still towers over blockbusters like Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo and James Bond 007 – No Time to Die at 1. That may be in no small part a result of the good reviews.
The Chicago Sun-Times describes The Covenant, for instance, as a “skillful” and “riveting” film, with “moments so violent you forget to breathe.” The review score on Rotten Tomatoes is an impressive 83 percent.
The Covenant revolves around U.S. officer Kinley (Gyllenhaal) and his translator Yousfi (Dar Salim), who are both fighting in Afghanistan. During a disastrous mission, Yousfi saves his superior’s life, but is forced into hiding from vengeful Taliban after his departure for the United States. A war-traumatized Kinley returns to Afghanistan to pay his debt.
