Men in Black 5 has not been officially announced
With a budget of $110 million, the last Men in Black installment grossed only $253 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Thus, the sci-fi spin-off is considered a flop. Therefore, it is not surprising that Sony has not yet announced a new Men in Black part, according to Screen Rant.
For a possible Men in Black 5, the studio will certainly think carefully about the form in which the franchise can be continued. This is where Will Smith comes in, who could make a comeback for the series.
Will Smith comeback in Men in Black 5 is possible
Last time Smith already managed to continue the Bad Boys series with a third part financially successful. After his career took a sharp dip due to the infamous Oscar incident, Bad Boys 4 starring the star and Martin Lawrence has already been announced.
The Men in Black series is among the most popular franchises featuring the actor, which could make a successful comeback from a nostalgia standpoint. Most recently, there have been no current statements from Smith as to whether he would return for a fifth Men in Black installment.
Whether Tommy Lee Jones would be back remains to be seen. A crossover between the “old” Men in Black team of Smith and Jones and the “new” team of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson would be possible. Information about ideas for the content of a fifth Men in Black film has not yet been announced.
