Today there is a fantasy flop on TV that should not exist. One of the stars hurt the role later extremely.
Peter Pan really knows every child. Whether a literary character or the hero of the popular 1953 Disney adaptation Peter Pan, everyone knows or loves the story about the boy who just won’t grow up. The more recent cinema adaptation Pan should therefore have been a sure hit. But fiddlesticks. And actor:in Rooney Mara showed great remorse for her casting after the release. Today, the fantasy flop is on TV.
Fantasy on TV: Pan failed because of a boring story and too much CGI
Pan tells the back story of Peter Pan (Levi Miller). In World War II London, he struggles to survive in the slums and is eventually kidnapped by pirates who take him to Neverland.
The film was criticized for many aspects when it was released. Most often, critics disliked the uninspired plot and the excess of CGI (via Metacritic ). In addition, the casting of white Rooney Mara as the indigenous Tiger Lilly caused controversy. The anger of the audience was very close to the actor:in, as Variety quotes from an interview with the Telegraph.
” I hate, hate, hate being on the wrong side of the debate. That’s not where I ever want to be again. I can understand why people were pissed off and frustrated. […] There should have been [more] diversity. “
The representation of Indigenous roles by non-Indigenous actors has recently come under increasing public scrutiny. Whether a change in casting would have saved the film from flop is another matter.
