In Blow, the true story of George Jung is being filmed
Johnny Depp plays George Jung in the thriller, who makes his first contacts with drugs in the wild 1960s. He quickly earns some extra money by dealing marijuana until he is caught with several hundred kilos. Instead of purifying himself in jail, however, George meets Diego (Jordi Mollà), who has contacts with Pablo Escobar’s Medellin cartel.
When George is released, he gets into the cocaine trade and is soon transporting tons across the Mexican border to the U.S.

George Jung is said to have been responsible at times for 80 percent of the cocaine shipment into the United States, allegedly earning around $100 million. The bizarre story of the Massachusetts boy was written down by author Bruce Porter. Ted Demme (Life in Prison) filmed the robbery tale with stars such as Penélope Cruz, Franka Potente and Ray Liotta.
When it was released in 2001, Blow received average reviews and was not a particularly big success. It has since risen in reputation, at least here on Moviepilot, where it is one of the best-rated films starring Johnny Depp. Almost 25,000 users have given the film an average rating of 7.7 out of 10. This means that Blow does as well as a small film called Pirates of the Caribbean.
