Whoever has been to the cinema in the last few weeks has most likely watched “Barbie”. At least that’s what the great box office results speak for. For all fans – and those who want to become fans – there will soon be a real “Barbie” surprise!
That Greta Gerwig’s new film “Barbie” would be successful was pretty clear even before it was released. The all-out creative advertising campaign for the comedy alone ensured that the pink Barbie dream world was ubiquitous. However, the fact that the plastic doll brought to life has literally dominated screens around the world for weeks is still quite surprising. “Barbie” recently broke one box-office record after the next and continues to fill cinemas.
The now already very good numbers should be topped in September 2023, however, because the film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is practically coming back to theaters all over again!
“BARBIE” CONQUERS THE WORLD’S BIGGEST SCREENS
Warner Bros. and IMAX have announced that “Barbie” will run exclusively in IMAX theaters in the U.S. and on select international screens for one week beginning September 22, 2023 – featuring previously unreleased post-credit scenes personally selected by Gerwig! Whether Germany will also be able to enjoy this is not yet clear. We have asked the responsible agency and keep you up to date.
“We made ‘Barbie’ for the big screen and that’s why it’s especially exciting that we can bring the film to IMAX, to the biggest screen of them all,” Gerwig explained in a statement. She wants to thank all “Barbie” fans with this and the additional scenes.
Until now, there was no place for “Barbie” in IMAX, because Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” ran there – also very successfully. The biopic, which was launched at the same time as “Barbie,” was shot with IMAX cameras and therefore had priority on the famous screens.
