Finally streaming after a 2-year wait: The farewell to the Netflix Thor

by Dennis

The second season of the Netflix fantasy series “Ragnarok” has already been two years and three months in the making. Now, however, season 3 is finally in the starting blocks – but that now also forms the grand finale.

In the recent past, not only the four “Thor” movies from Marvel and the two latest installments of the popular video game series “God Of War” have revived Norse mythology on a grand scale. The Netflix series “Ragnarok” has also contributed to its current popularity with its very own modern spin on the world of the gods surrounding Thor.

But while we will almost certainly see the MCU God of Thunder again after “Thor 4: Love And Thunder,” we now have to say goodbye to the Netflix Thor: On today, August 24, 2023, the third and final season of “Ragnarok” will be released – which, with six episodes, will once again mix fantasy spectacle with coming-of-age drama and an environmental message for another five hours.

WILL “RAGNARÖK” SEASON 3 BE THE TWILIGHT OF THE GODS?

In “Ragnarök” the brothers Magne (David Stakston) and Laurits (Jonas Strand Gravli) find themselves in the Norwegian town of Edda, which is plagued by extreme weather conditions. They soon discover that they are reincarnations of the ancient gods Thor and Loki, and with the (re)awakening of their powers they are drawn into an ancient mythological conflict – which now reaches its climax in season 3.

Because after the end of season 2, it looks as if we might actually be in for the titular Ragnarok, the downfall of the gods. After all, Laurits/Loki has now unleashed the serpent he gave birth to on the world, which is also closely linked to the fatal event in the original lore.

In it it is said that Ragnarok occurs when the world snake, which has grown to gigantic size and thus soon bites itself in the tail, releases its bite in its own tail again, sprays its deadly poison and thus pollutes water and air (which in “Ragnarok”, possibly somewhat modified, would now also fit well with the said environmental message). In mythology, Thor confronts the creature – with tragic consequences.

Will Magne also take on the serpent in “Ragnarok” and sacrifice himself for man and the gods, or will the series do something completely original with the well-known story? The answer is now available on Netflix.
