For “Bridgerton” and “Downton Abbey” fans: first trailer for season 2

by Han

The series “Downton Abbey” is finished, the third season of “Bridgerton” is not yet within reach and “Queen Charlotte” is also behind us. So it’s a good thing that “The Gilded Age” will soon be back: Season 2 starts in the fall of 2023!

The last episode of “Downton Abbey” ran across our screens over seven years ago, and even though we were able to console ourselves with two sequel movies, there’s a hole in our hearts that beat for historical series with great costumes. How good that Netflix has brought “Bridgerton” (and the spin-off “Queen Charlotte”) into our lives – but even on this front, there is still a long way to go. Instead, the second season of “The Gilded Age,” a series by Julian Fellowes, the creator of “Downton Abbey,” is now waiting in the wings!

Season 2 of “Gilded Age” can be streamed on Sky and WOW from October 30, 2023, directly parallel to the HBO broadcast in the US. The eight new episodes will be put online in a weekly rhythm always on Monday at 8:15 pm. The first teaser for the new episodes is already available today.

THIS IS WHAT SEASON 2 OF “THE GILDED AGE” IS ABOUT

While Julian Fellowes devoted himself to the early 20th century in England with “Downton Abbey,” “The Gilded Age” is set in the booming New York of the late 19th century. Here, the “old money,” in the form of the high aristocracy and fine society, is visibly coming under pressure. More and more immigrants and nouveau riche from Europe come to New York and turn existing hierarchies upside down.

The story focuses on Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) and her husband George (Morgan Spector), who want to climb to the top of society in New York. In doing so, they encounter a lot of resistance, because the rich city aristocracy is not enthusiastic about the self-made millionaires. Even in season 2, Bertha is nowhere near where she wanted to be and has a bitter dispute with Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy), who calls the shots in the city.

Young Marian (Louisa Jacobson), who moved in with her conservative aunts Ada (Cynthia Nixon) and Agnes (Christine Baranski) in the first season and is now expected to follow in their footsteps, is also far from having found her place in life (and in New York). She secretly teaches at a girls’ school in order to at least bring a little modernity into her life in this way.

The first season of “The Gilded Age” can be found on Sky and WOW. The new episodes of season 2 are then available from October 30, every Monday.
