Barbie” conquers another all-time record – even “Harry” has no chance.

Barbie” is breaking one record after another. In the U.S., the satire is already the most successful film of the year and the highest-grossing Warner film. Now the blockbuster starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has broken another record.

The triumph of the plastic doll knows no bounds: On Monday, Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” cracked the international box office mark of 1.342 billion U.S. dollars and is now the most successful film in the portfolio of Hollywood studio Warner. This title was previously held by the magical student of magic Harry Potter. The finale of the film series “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” only just missed the USD 1.342 billion mark in 2011.

Another phenomenal milestone for the pink satire. Already, “Barbie” is the most successful film in the USA in 2023. A few days ago, the blockbuster was already able to overtake “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” in the domestic market. While the latter ended its box office run with a box office of $574.26 million, the comedy starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is now at $594.8 million.

WILL “BARBIE” ALSO BECOME THE MOST SUCCESSFUL FILM GLOBALLY?

And globally, too, it should now only be a matter of time before “Barbie” leaves the animated film about Nintendo’s cult plumber behind. Worldwide, the “Super Mario Bros. movie” brought in 1.360 billion at the box office, which is still just ahead of the result of “Barbie” (namely 1.342 billion US dollars). But perhaps Greta Gerwig’s film will also snatch up the last remaining title of the year as early as after the coming weekend.

However, there are still a few months until the end of the year and it is not impossible that the colorful reckoning with the patriarchy will have to relinquish its titles again. After all, other major productions are entering the race for the most successful film of the year – including, for example, Warner’s in-house competition “Wonka” and “Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom.”

And studios like Disney also have one or two aces up their sleeves: For example, the superheroine smash “The Marvels” is launching for the Mouse House. But even if “Barbie” should lose its title, for Warner the film is already a real sensational success.
