Will Johnny Depp return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6? The new installment of the fantasy series is surprisingly far advanced, as the screenwriter hints. With his story, anything would be possible.
For six years, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been at a standstill. Between 2003 and 2017, the fantasy series garnered immense success. Pirates of the Caribbean 5, however, fell short of expectations – that and the controversies surrounding lead actor Johnny Depp put the brakes on plans for part 6.
After half an eternity, there is now a new status on the sequel. We summarize the latest developments and explain what they mean for the future of the series as well as Johnny Depp’s possible return as Jack Sparrow.
Two stories exist for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and one of them is “too bizarre “
Two scripts for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 are circulating at Pirates of the Caribbean studio Disney, with the first story by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) centering on Barbie star Margot Robbie. For a long time, this version was considered the favorite by those responsible – until the plans were surprisingly scrapped.
Instead, the current preference is for the draft that Craig Mazin (The Last of Us) wrote with Caribbean veteran Ted Elliott. To the L.A. Times, Mazin described how he proposed his idea to Disney. The response surprised him.
“We presented [the story] and thought there was no way they would buy it. It’s too bizarre. But they did! And then he [Elliott] wrote a fantastic script. “
When is Pirates of the Caribbean 6 coming and is Johnny Depp in it?
The process surrounding the fantasy blockbuster seems surprisingly advanced. According to Mazin, the ongoing double strike in Hollywood interrupted preparation. Since then, “everyone’s been waiting.” Whether that “everyone” includes Jack Sparrow actor Johnny Depp is an open question. Hodson’s design would likely have left Sparrow out and gone in a whole new direction with Robbie. With Mazin’s version, things could be different.
After the high-profile court case with Amber Heard, Johnny Depp’s rehabilitation in Hollywood is on the horizon. And with Jerry Bruckheimer, the most important patron did not explicitly rule out Depp’s comeback.
