“Jawan” already made the internet glow in March – and then four months later, it stepped up its game when the trailer for the new action blockbuster with Shah Rukh Khan was released. By then, at the latest, the author of this article knew: After “Pathaan” he will simply not avoid to experience – or rather to have to experience – “Jawan” on the big screen. After all, the comeback of superstar SRK is all about brute, epic action, the likes of which are rarely seen in Hollywood at the moment. And today, September 7, 2023, the time has finally come: “Jawan” opens in cinemas across Germany and invites you to a damp and cheerful – or rather explosive and lead-filled – escape from reality!
For all those who long for action cinema that virtually celebrates any claim to realism – and accompanied by plenty of slow motion, explosions and the odd dance – throws overboard, “Jawan” after “Pathaan” and “RRR” is the next absolute must-see movie. Because in Indian action cinema, more is simply more – and that’s exactly why films like “Jawan” should definitely be seen in theaters. On the biggest possible screen, so that the shreds fly around your ears!
While “RRR” is still available exclusively on Netflix, since August you can also get “Pathaan” at home – on DVD and Blu-ray*. The digital release, on the other hand, is still a long time coming on Amazon Prime Video, and is so far only available on Apple TV or Google Play, for example.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen “Jawan” yet, but a cursory glance at the most common movie rating platforms online is enough to expect nothing less than one of the action highlights of the year – if not the best action movie of 2023: At Rotten Tomatoes (as of 2 p.m. on September 7, 2023), about 90 percent of user ratings are positive, while the film is met with even more enthusiasm at IMDb: With 8.8 out of 10 stars with 3,656 ratings, “Jawan” is even one of the best films here in recent years. With further votes, this fabulous value is likely to drop a bit, but such a high entry is still an announcement. Whether the film actually lives up to the hype is something you’d best find out for yourself.
Director Atlee Kumar (“The Spark – Theri”, “Mersal”) tells in “Jawan” about the emotional journey of Raj Vardhan Thakur, who decides to fight against injustice in society – until one day he is finally caught up by his dark past. And then no stone is left unturned, as the trailer above already makes more than clear.
At the side of Shah Rukh Khan, who of course plays the lead role, his “Pathaan” partner Deepika Padukone can be seen again.
