“Phenomenal”: High praise for new series with “Game Of Thrones” star Sophie

by Dennis

True-crime formats are currently in high demand, and a true-crime series with “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner certainly sounds exciting. Even better, “Joan” is already getting rave reviews!

For eight seasons, British actress Sophie Turner starred as Sansa Stark in “Game of Thrones” and grew really fond of viewers over time. After that, Turner took some time off, became a mother and didn’t appear on the screens until 2020 with the series “Survive”. Now she has completed another project that crime fans should definitely keep in mind.

While in “Survive” Turner struggles to survive in the wilderness and has to deal with wolves, in her new series “Joan” it’s mainly other people who give her a hard time. Out of necessity, she becomes a jewel thief and seems to do a pretty good job of it!

Brad Schwartz, entertainment chief for The CW network, has high praise for Turner and her new series “Joan” on TV’s Top 5 podcast. He says of Turner as a jewel thief that she is “phenomenal” and is sure the production will collect awards. To that, of course, it must be said that Schwartz is certainly not without bias; after all, he’s promoting one of his own network’s series here.

THIS IS “JOAN “

As mentioned above, “Joan” is a true-crime series and tells the story of Joan Hannington, who rose to fame as a notorious jewel thief in the 1980s. Hannington was nicknamed “The Godmother” in the London underworld because her coups were so elaborate and spectacular. But Hannington was not always a criminal…

Hannington is in her twenties when she decides to start a new life. She wants to get rid of her violent husband Gary and gets herself and her six-year-old daughter Kelly new identities. To earn money, she decides to steal jewelry and other valuable things – with quite a bit of success.

“Joan,” by the way, is based on Hannington’s own memoir, which she recorded in her autobiography “I Am What I Am.” According to Brad Schwartz, “Joan” will run on the CW channel in early or mid-2024. When and if we will get to see the series in Germany is not yet clear.
