“ScheFaZ” fans must now be very strong. In 2023, the last episodes of the cult TV format “The Worst Films of All Time” will be shown on TELE 5. However, statements by the makers hinting at a continuation elsewhere give hope…

As the broadcaster TELE 5 announced in a press release, the format “The Worst Films of All Times” alias “SchleFaZ” will be discontinued at the end of 2023. The reason given was a reorientation of the channel’s strategy: In the future, they want to “focus more on purely fictional film and series content as well as sci-fi”. To this end, the channel will concentrate on the extensive library of parent company Warner with, according to the PM, “legendary classics, top blockbusters and first-class series”.

In “SchleFaZ”, Oliver Kalkofe and Peter Rütten took a special look at failed films. Not only were the films shown, but they were also introduced in detail, their weaknesses discussed as if they were being made fun of, and the whole thing was celebrated with wacky costumes, lots of decoration and a cocktail to match. In the beginning, the two presenters helped themselves to TELE 5’s already existing trash film fund, and over the years they dug up more and more gems of bad film. Thus, rarities were presented that you would otherwise never see on TV – and above all, celebrated despite all the mockery of flaws and quirks.

“SCHLEFAZ”: KALKOFE AND RÜTTEN WANT TO CONTINUE ELSEWHERE

In the press release, Oliver Kalkofe and Peter Rütten are “saddened” by the decision, but end with a promise to the fans: “Despite everything, the smart battleship SchleFaZ!”

With this, the two hinted that “SchleFaZ” could continue elsewhere (for example, on another TV channel or a streaming service). In addition, there still seems to be a plan to present and comment on bad films at live stage shows as well. Such live events have already taken place several times – especially on special anniversaries of the series.

FOR NOW: STILL THE LAST ROUND “SCHLEFAZ” AT TELE 5

Even without details about the “new home port” and a possible sequel, the farewell to “SchleFaZ” will at least not be a sudden one. A season is currently running on TELE 5, which will of course continue to be broadcast. In addition, an Advent season has already been produced, which will be shown in December. And on New Year’s Eve there will be an unspecified “Good-Bye” special.
