Brutal The Boys replacement from the same creator streams new on Netflix:

by Dennis

A fantasy series from The Boys creators hits Netflix today. It captivates not only with its humorous violent escapades, but also with the wacky characters who don’t have to hide from their superhero colleagues.

Fans of The Boys can be doubly happy this week: While Amazon is just starting a spin-off to the bloody superhero success with Gen V, Netflix is now showing all 4 seasons of The Boys “predecessor” Preacher. The brutal fantasy series not only came from the same creators, but possessed much of its amusingly bloody escalation three years before the adventures of the Supes.

Now on Netflix: why the fantasy of Preacher is so similar to the brutal superhero series The Boys

On Netflix, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) is the titular preacher of the fantasy series. As a chain-smoking alcohol lover, however, he does not present the usual image of a Bible-thumping man of God. Especially since he is deep in a crisis of faith. But then, through a supernatural event in a church, he receives a gift that charges his voice with enormous power. With his old girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and his new vampire friend Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), he embarks on a wacky quest to find God.

For Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead network AMC, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen created the fantasy series Preacher with Sam Catlin in 2014 based on the comic book template of the same name *. Preacher comic author Garth Ennis also wrote The Boys comics, which series creators Goldberg and Rogen turned into a hit series on Amazon after Preacher. So The Boys and Preacher have the same creators.
The special mix of brutality and humour, combined with superhuman powers, showed the creative team’s signature in Preacher already three years before The Boys. Filthy, bloody and with ever new borderline experiences, this priest now also wants to captivate the Netflix audience.

Netflix’s bloody fantasy follow-up: Preacher will win you over with its characters

The strength of the fantasy series Preacher is its completely bizarre characters, who nevertheless make exciting figures: Take vampire Cassidy, for example, who can only go outside with a parasol and makes an excellent sidekick when he’s not accidentally causing the next bloodbath.

The mumbling Eugene (Ian Colletti), nicknamed Arseface, wears an unusual face after a failed suicide attempt. Watching the strong-willed Ruth Negga as the priest’s ex-girlfriend is always a pleasure anyway. Oh yes, and Hitler (Noah Taylor) is also running around somewhere when heaven and hell can’t keep their gates properly closed.

So if you like your fantasy a bit bloodier or have been looking for a The Boys replacement for a long time, Preacher is the right streaming address. You can watch all 43 episodes of the 4 seasons now on Netflix.
