“The Iron Claw” highlights the true and tragic story of the Von Erich wrestling family dynasty. It stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, among others. You can watch the first trailer here:
Those who follow wrestling with fervor will surely be familiar with the tragic story surrounding the Von Erich dynasty. But if you haven’t had any previous exposure to the popular show sport, here’s some insight: Jack Adkisson became a star as professional wrestler Fritz Von Erich not only in his native Texas, but also in Japan. His sons Kevin, David, Mike, Kerry and Chris also got into the family business.
You might now think that “The Iron Claw” tells a standard success story, but that’s not the case. Quite the opposite, in fact. At the age of only six, a Von Erich son already died as a result of electrocution. David was killed while wrestling in Japan in 1984. Mike, Kerry and Chris all took their own lives in the following years. Fritz finally succumbed to brain cancer in 1997. Only Kevin Von Erich, who is now 66, survived.
LOTS OF FAMILIAR FACES IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA
In “The Iron Claw,” Zac Efron (“We Are Your Friends”) takes on the role of Kevin. “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen “White” stars as Kerry, Harris Dickinson (“Triangle Of Sadness”) as David, Stanley Simons (“Angelfish”) as Mike and Holt McCallany (“Mindhunter”) as Jack aka Fritz. Also joining the cast are Lily James (“Pam & Tommy”) as Kevin’s wife Pam and Maura Tierney (“The Fool”) as his mother Doris.
“The Iron Claw” was directed under the A24 banner by Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”). He also penned the screenplay for the true story. Until we get to see the wrestler biopic in German cinemas, we still have to be patient: from December 21, 2023, “The Iron Claw” will then be seen on the big screen in this country.
