Six years after the end of “Orphan Black” there is good news for fans of the dark future thriller series. With “Orphan Black: Echoes” finally comes follow-up. Here is the first trailer for the hopefully soon starting episodes:

“A clone is never alone,” proclaimed the tagline at the time of “Orphan Black,” a Canadian science fiction series that ran for five seasons from 2013 to 2017. In it, the multiple award-winning Tatiana Maslany embodied different clones who had grown up apart from each other, but together tried to uncover the mystery of their origins.

With “Orphan Black: Echoes” now follows a new series, which is not a direct continuation, but a spin-off. It will be set in the same series universe, but will tell a different story taking place within it. The lead role will be played by Krysten Ritter, known from “Breaking Bad” and as the title star of “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” among others. By the way, the advertising slogan for the new show is: “A completely unique copy of the original.

In North America, the first season consisting of ten episodes will start in 2024 in the program of the cable channels AMC (“The Walking Dead,” “Breaking Bad”) and BBC America (“Killing Eve”). However, an exact date is not yet available. It is not yet known when and on which channel or streaming service we will see “Orphan Black: Echoes” in Germany. While the first three seasons of the original series debuted with us on ZDF Neo, the last two then came first in the program of Netflix.

The creator and screenwriter of “Orphan Black: Echoes” is Anna Fishko, whose previous writing and producing credits include “Fear The Walking Dead” and the Netflix titles “The Society” and “A Part of Her.” Fishko serves as sole showrunner, while sharing the producer*s job with Rytter and John Fawcett, the mastermind behind the original series. Fawcett also directed the pilot episode, which was shot in Toronto. Continuity and close proximity to the source material should thus be assured.

Those who want to catch up or rewatch the prequel show until the start of “Orphan Black: Echoes” will find what they’re looking for at Amazon, for example:
