Jason Statham fights 3 (!) giant monsters in $185 million

The sci-fi story about the prehistoric monster shark continues in Meg 2. Director Ben Wheatley directed the American-Chinese production. Action hero Jason Statham could not be missing, of course, who fights again alongside his team in the depths of the sea.

Sequels should outdo the predecessor, in action movies that means louder, faster, crasser. Meg 2 follows the unwritten law and so Jason Statham and his team have to fight not one monster shark, but three.

There are not only underwater stunts and nerve-racking chases, but also on the busy tourist beach. And they are best enjoyed in 4K. The version for home cinema will be released on November 2.

In addition to the crisp 4K version * Meg 2 is also available on Blu-ray * and DVD *. With the bonus material you learn more about the making of the new beasts. The monster blockbuster is also available on Amazon Prime as a stream *.

Meg 2 almost as successful as Barbie

Despite, or perhaps because Meg grossed over half a billion US dollars, the promo tour from the second part turned out to be very low. And with a strong competitor like Barbie flooding the media in advance and running in theaters at the same time, it was a bit of a surprise that Meg 2 already grossed $12 million on its first day, as Deadline reports. Overall, Meg 2 comes in at a worldwide box office total of $395 million.

Meg, by the way, was planned as a real gore movie with lots of blood and specific amputation scenes. Some of it was shot, but they decided to reschedule on short notice and produced a family-friendly FSK-12 blockbuster.

This is what Meg 2: The Deep is about

Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) explores the deepest reaches of the ocean with his research team, but they are not alone in the darkness. An unscrupulous corporation is searching for raw materials and upsetting an ancient ecosystem through underwater mining. Giant prehistoric sharks are lured from the depths and Taylor’s crew once again finds themselves in a fight for survival.

After the huge success of the franchise, a third installment is likely, but no sequel has been confirmed yet. There would be enough material, because author Steve Alten is currently working on the eighth book of the Meg series. The movies are loosely based on the novels, so Meg 3 would be set on the set of a reality show.
