This is what it’s all about: Beastly is a Beauty and the Beast film adaptation
Beastly modernized the traditional French folk tale Beauty and the Beast in 2011, which has been filmed many times. Beastly is set in the present day. The main character is Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer), who has everything a teenager could want. He is rich, popular and extremely handsome. But after he shames a new classmate (Mary-Kate Olsen), she turns out to be a witch.
She turns him into a monster. If he finds a girl within two years who will love him just for himself and despite his ugliness, he will be redeemed. His choice falls on Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens).
Alex Pettyfer suffers: Extremely elaborate makeup in Beastly
It’s definitely a challenge for any makeup artist to transform Alex Pettyfer into a monster figure. Those moderate facial features are hard to make over. In Variety the then 19-year-old actor said he “didn’t think he’d be sitting in a makeup chair for 7.5 hours, for 53 days of shooting.” Five and a half hours were spent putting on the makeup. And afterwards, after all, the prosthetics had to come off. “Seventy-five pieces glued to my face every day is crazy.”
In addition, Pettyfer had to shave off his hair: “That helped me with my character. When you have an image for many years and you destroy it, you get out of your comfort zone. “
