In a recent interview, the actor revealed that a new Star Trek script is being written specifically for his character. He already sounds excited about the idea.
New Star Trek script to land with Patrick Stewart soon
In conversation for Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the star reveals at one point that he’s due to receive a new Star Trek script within a week, which has probably been tailored to Picard. Stewart doesn’t say that it’s a movie for sure. Still, the project could be a sort of final movie for Picard after 3 seasons of the Star Trek series.

The actor also says in the podcast that he wants to explore more facets of the character, which would require more experimentation. Excitedly, he teases that the script, which he has yet to read in its entirety, is likely to involve exactly this level of experimental playfulness
