Avatar genius James Cameron has now revealed that he has ideas for new sequels. For good reason, however, the sci-fi franchise will probably continue without him in the director’s chair after part 5
The Avatar series will continue at least until 2031. James Cameron has planned five parts, but the sci-fi universe will continue to grow even after that. In a recent interview, the director talked about ideas for Avatar 6 and 7, which will most likely have to be realized without him behind the camera
James Cameron plans Avatar 6 & 7 with a change of director
In an interview with People magazine, the Avatar creator spoke about the future of the sci-fi series. Cameron wants to continue the sci-fi franchise for a very long time, but a change in the director’s chair seems inevitable:
We’ve finished writing the fifth movie and I have ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably pass the baton on at that point. I mean, mortality catches up with you. But we enjoy what we do. We love it. We work with great people.
Have you seen it? Avatar ending secretly changed at Disney+: New scene at minute 152 sets up the sequel
In the People interview, the director compares his Avatar series to the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises, which continued to be developed for a long time even without the involvement of their original creators.
Cameron is just 69 years old. If Avatar 5 is released as planned in 2031, the director would be slowly approaching 80 by then. The fact that he is already thinking about handing over directing duties for Avatar sequels after part 5 sounds only logical
